A message from the SNMC School Principal

Salamu Alikym Brothers and Sisters,

In the SNMC, we are hoping to achieve key cornerstones in the lives of our students, namely, loving Allah (SWT), and planting the seeds of the Islamic pillars in the hearts of the upcoming, new generation.

We are very honoured to have been selected by the parents of our Barrhaven community to carry the message of Islamic belief and pass it to our students: A message that Allah (SWT) gave before to messengers and prophets among them our beloved prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Our role in the SNMC School concentrates on five main cornerstones:

Explain and plant the right belief and rituals in the hearts, minds, and behaviours of our students based on our holly Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

Translate all the teachings of our wonderful religion to practical examples and concrete understandings in a manner that helps them in their real day-to-day life. For example, the concepts of respect to the elderly, kindness to neighbours, generosity with guests; loving brothers and sisters, respecting parents and grandparents, among others.

Observe the tradition of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in our beliefs, behaviours, and communication.

Allow students to expand their knowledge by invoking into meaningful discussions, listening to their questions, and addressing them properly based on the tradition of Islam.

Relate to our community in Barrhaven and always be a part of our multi-cultural society, through bridging the different religious groups and backgrounds with respect and dignity. Al-hamdu Lillah, many achievements have happened during this scholastic year thanks to the wonderful group of students, the dedication of teachers and staff, and importantly the highly appreciated cooperation from the parents and guardians.

Every month, teachers are introducing key concept, and important moral for the Muslim character that are being taught and practiced at school. For example, we started talking about Honesty or Amana, followed by the Salah or praying. In doing so, and as you have seen with your child’s work, we have started the Salah schedule hoping to create the habit of performing the salah 5 times a day for our children. We have explained the importance associated with that practice (i.e. being the second pillar of Islam, respecting the praying times, being organized etc.). This practice is intended to build confidence in the students and make them proud of what they are doing. At the end of each month, prayers’ schedules are collected and a prize is given to “the best salah performer” who did not miss any salah. In this yearbook, you will recognize many faces in our school in the following few pages who got prizes for their excellent performance and attitudes in the school.

In addition, we have also tried to get the students involved in more entertaining activities by engaging them in the school choir, singing and practicing some wonderful Islamic songs and anachid. Students were so excited by this ritual and have performed more than once to the rest of the school.

Finally, and in addition to our commitment, and in order to build your child’s Islamic education, and taking an active role in the learning process, it is important for parents to work with their children to complete their assigned homework, keep up-to-date with exam dates and preparation, and bring up any issues, concerns, comments to the teacher or principal.

Regular communication with the teachers is essential in promoting an enriched learning environment. Students will have a weekly memorization of the Holy Qur’an, a portion of Islamic Studies, and reading and writing Arabic. It is very important to make sure students are on-track in terms of these requirements (please refer to the school curriculum for more information).

We thank all of you for joining the SNMC school, and as Allah (SWT) says in his Holy Book:

“Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] Hid Messenger ad the believers” (9:105)

وقل اعملوا فسيري الله عملكم ورسوله والمؤمنون
