SNMC Summer Job Opportunities  

 

Please read the following eligibility criteria carefully.  

 

Participants 

To be eligible, participants must: 

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; 
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and, 
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. 

 

International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

Positions 

 

Camp Supervisor  

Task and responsibilities 

The South Nepean Muslim Community (SNMC) Center is planning to organize a six-week long summer camp for approximately 100 youth between 9 and 13 years old. As a leader and supervisor both to camp counselors and campers ages 9-13, the Camp Supervisor’s primary responsibility is overall planning, supervision, and Implementing the educational and recreational programming. The supervisor will ensure both camp counselors’ and campers’ well-being and make their camp experience as fun and rewarding as possible. The supervisor will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in the group. Further, the supervisor will plan and implement the outdoor activities during the camp. 

 

Requirments: 

  • Experience planning and implementing recreation programs for a camp and youth aged 9 – 13 

 

Preferred skills and experience: 

  • Experience and demonstrated ability to train, supervise  
  • Programming skills in crafts, sports, games, creative play 
  • Previous experience working in a leadership role  
  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written directions/procedures 
  • Demonstrates supervisory and strong leadership skills  
  • Conflict resolution and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage simultaneous demands  
  • Ability to promote teamwork and to work independently when appropriate  
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and programming planning skills  
  • Energetic and eager to participate in active recreation activities  
  • CPR/First Aid training is an asset  

 

Number of positions: 1 

 Number of weeks: 8 

 Hours per week: 35 

 Hourly rate: $20 per hour 

 Start date: June 24, 2019 

 

Camp Counselor-1-I 

Task and Responsibilities  

The camp counselors will be tasked with organizing and delivering a six-week-long summer camp for the children. The counselors will be responsible for leading a recreational and an educational part of the camp that are not part of the normal day-to-day operation of the SNMC. The recreational aspect will include an introduction to various sports and a competition over the course of six weeks while the educational part will focus on enhancing youth’s understanding related to heritage and culture of their own countries. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Enjoy working with children aged to 9 – 13 
  • Enthusiastic positive attitude 
  • CPR/First Aid training 

 

Preferred skills and experience: 

  • Ability to teach reading of Arabic 
  • Organizational skills 
  • Programming skills in sports, games, creative play 
  • Experience working with children and youth 
  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written directions/procedures  
  • Ability to accompany and supervise campers 
  • Experience operating recreation programs 
  • Demonstrates supervisory and strong leadership skills  
  • CPR/First Aid training is an asset 

 

Number of positions: 1 

Number of weeks: 6 

Hours per week: 40 

Hourly rate: $14 per hour 

Start date: July 8, 2019 

 

Camp Counselor-1-II

Number of weeks: 6 

Hours per week: 32 

Hourly rate: $14 per hour 

Start date: July 8, 2019

Digital Media and Marketing Intern 

Requirements: 

  • Understanding of the basics of computer programming 
  • Fluency in at least one of these programming languages (C#, Python)  
  • Solid understanding of HTTP protocol  
  • Experience of REST APIs programming  
  • PHP & WordPress is preferred but not a must 
  • Structural database design & programming  
  • NOSQL experience is preferred but not a must 
  • Progressive Web Apps or mobile apps experience is preferred but not a must.  

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop line of business applications for internal/external use that involves  
  • SQL Database  
  • REST APIs 
  • PowerApps 
  • Web Applications  
  • Participate in developing next version of SNMC web site  
  • Participate in building web apps for SNMC
